The Prophet ﷺ saw in a dream an angel carrying to him a woman whose face was covered. The angel told him, "This shall be your wife." When he uncovered her face, it was Aisha bint Abi Bakr RA. He said that if the dream was from Allah, it would come to pass, and it did.
The nikah, the marriage contract, was done in Makkah. The marriage itself only began later, in Madinah, in the 2nd year after the Hijrah.
Aisha RA became the Prophet ﷺ's third wife and, in the Madinan era, his favorite.
