~In Abyssinia, after her iddah (c. 621 CE) · 6 AH
Ramla bint Abi Sufyan, known as Umm Habiba, was the daughter of Abu Sufyan, the leader of the Quraysh. She had emigrated to Abyssinia with her husband, Ubaydillah ibn Jahsh. He died there, leaving her a widow in a foreign land with no one to care for her.
When her waiting period was over, the Prophet ﷺ sent her a proposal of marriage through the Najashi, the king of Abyssinia. The Najashi acted as her guardian and arranged the marriage. He also paid her dowry on the Prophet ﷺ's behalf, although the Prophet ﷺ had not asked him to. She later travelled to Madinah with a delegation the Najashi sent.
Umm Habiba became one of the Mothers of the Believers.
