Ya Rasulullah, I have a problem riding a horse: I always fall off.
Ya Allah, make him firm.
~8-9 AH · 8 AH
After the Conquest of Makkah, the Prophet ﷺ sent expeditions to destroy the smaller idols that some tribes across Arabia still worshipped, since the larger idols had already been destroyed. One of these idols, Dhi al-Kaffayn, belonged to the tribe of Daws in Yemen, the tribe of Abu Hurairah RA. It was a huge idol, and they had even built a structure they called a ka'bah, to rival the Ka'bah in Makkah. The Prophet ﷺ sent Tufayl ibn Amr RA with 400 men to remove it. Before setting out, Tufayl told the Prophet ﷺ that he always fell off when riding a horse. The Prophet ﷺ made du'a for him, "Ya Allah, make him firm," and Tufayl never fell from a horse again.
Outcome: The temple and idol were destroyed by fire.
Tufayl ibn Amr RA burned down the temple that housed Dhi al-Kaffayn. This was part of the Prophet ﷺ's wider campaign in this period to rid the Arabian Peninsula of idol worship. Some modern vigilante groups cite incidents like this to justify destroying the sacred sites of other faiths. In reply, it is pointed out that the Prophet ﷺ only had such idols destroyed after he had established political authority over the land, following the Conquest of Makkah and the Battle of Hunayn.
