Layla RA was the wife of Amir ibn Rabi'ah RA, with whom she made the first emigration to Abyssinia. As she loaded their camel, Umar ibn al-Khattab, then still a persecutor, asked where they were going and, when she blamed him, wished them well with unexpected compassion. Her husband scoffed that Umar's family donkeys would accept Islam before he did, and the story is told to show that no one is beyond Allah's guidance. The couple later returned to Makkah on the false rumour.
