Safwan pronouncing the shahada before the Prophet ﷺ after Umayr convinced him to return from hiding.
~8 AH, Conquest of Makkah · 8 AH
After the Battle of Badr, Safwan ibn Umayyah had promised to pay his cousin's debts and support his family if the cousin, Umayr ibn Wahab, would go to Madinah and kill the Prophet ﷺ. Instead, Umayr accepted Islam there. Safwan vowed never to have anything to do with him again, and the two did not speak for years.
At the Conquest of Makkah in 8 AH, Safwan was still a pagan. He was sure the Prophet ﷺ would never forgive him for the plot, so he fled the city. Umayr looked for him and learned that he had gone. He asked the Prophet ﷺ to grant Safwan aman, a guarantee of protection, and the Prophet ﷺ granted it. Umayr then found where Safwan was hiding and persuaded him to come back. Safwan returned and declared the shahada, the testimony of faith, before the Prophet ﷺ.
Outcome: Safwan ibn Umayyah accepted Islam.
The two cousins who had once plotted to assassinate the Prophet ﷺ both became Muslims at his hands.
