So Muhammad ﷺ's line is cut off at last!
Cheered in the streets of Makkah on hearing of the death of the Prophet ﷺ's son Abdullah.
When Muhammad ﷺ lost his infant son Abdullah, one of his worst enemies, al-As ibn Wa'il, mocked him in his grief. Al-As ran through the streets of Makkah cheering that the Prophet ﷺ's line of descendants had been cut off. In response, Allah revealed Surah al-Kawthar (Qur'an 108:1-3).
Allah answered al-As ibn Wa'il's taunt by promising the Prophet ﷺ abundance (al-Kawthar). He declared that it is the one who mocked him who is truly cut off. The three short verses of this surah were especially beloved to the Prophet ﷺ. Al-Kawthar is also the name of the main river of Jannah (Paradise), which is given to the Prophet ﷺ alone. All the other rivers of Jannah branch off from it.
