~Sha'ban, 4 AH · 4 AH
At the end of the Battle of Uhud, Abu Sufyan had called out that the two sides would meet again one year later at Badr. In Sha'ban of the 4th year of the Hijrah, the Prophet ﷺ marched out with around 1,500 sahaba, with Ali ibn Abi Talib RA as flag bearer. They camped at Badr for over a week, waiting for the Quraysh. The Quraysh had in fact gathered an army of about 2,000 and marched out, but their hearts were not in it. After much argument they turned back without a fight, saying it had been a year of drought and hardship.
Outcome: The Quraysh abandoned the confrontation and returned to Makkah without fighting.
Shows the Quraysh could no longer live up to their own challenges, and that the balance of strength was shifting toward the Muslims.
