~Year of Delegations (9 AH) · 9 AH
Ten men of Banu Asad ibn Khuzaymah came loudly into the mosque in Madinah and declared that they were Muslims. They pointed out that they had come without anyone being sent to invite them, and had accepted Islam without being fought, unlike other Arabs. They added that they had travelled through the darkness and the cold to get there. Allah then revealed Qur'an 49:17 about them. The verse tells the Prophet ﷺ to say to them that their Islam is not a favor they have done him. Rather, Allah has done them a favor by guiding them to faith.
It is an example of a tribe that accepted Islam but still carried some of the old tribal pride into the new faith.

“They regard their acceptance of Islam as a favor to you. Tell [them, O Prophet], 'Do not regard your Islam as a favor to me. Rather, it is Allah Who has done you a favor by guiding you to the faith, if [indeed] you are faithful...'”
Revealed correcting the delegation's boast that they had accepted Islam unbidden and unfought.
“[O Bedouins,] you are not yet mu'mins (believers), you are Muslims (one who has accepted Islam). Iman has not yet fully entered your hearts.”
Opens the same passage as Al-Hujurat 49:17 (already linked to this event), addressing Bedouin tribes who overstated their faith upon accepting Islam without a fight.
