Al-Hasan ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib RA was the first grandson of the Prophet ﷺ, born to Ali RA and Fatima RA. When he was born, the Prophet ﷺ asked Ali RA to show him the baby and asked what he had named him. Ali RA said he had named him "Harb", which means War and was a common name before Islam. The Prophet ﷺ renamed him Hasan, which means Beauty.
The Prophet ﷺ gave the adhan (the call to prayer) in Hasan's right ear. He told Fatima RA to shave the baby's hair and give its weight in silver in charity. He then performed the aqiqah, the sacrifice made for a newborn, himself. Out of his happiness and pride, he sacrificed the two sheep and invited the guests.
Most authorities date Hasan RA's birth to Sha'ban of the 5th year of the Hijrah.
